I just got DJ Food, _Refried Food_, and am wondering what the reaction out there is. Though my initial yeah-yeah-yeah excitement wears off by the end of the disc, there's some brilliant stuff on there. DJ Food's spinning in Maryland on March 31st, and I'm wondering what exactly he'll be doing. Will this _Refried_ stuff make any sonic appearances? Will DJ Food ever tour with DJ Shadow? And, if I remember right, how did someone compare DJ Spooky to DJ Food? While all food can sometimes be spooky, not all that's spooky constitutes food... Thoughts? Also: as someone paranoid of growing-up to be 45 years old & 800 miles from a sampler or a turntable, is anyone out there aware of any acoustic artists (guitar, handdrums, free jazz, etc.) who do shit similar to Squarepusher or Autechre? Crazy architectural rhythm-variations, but not dependent on a federal electricity supply? 'Cuz what happens when you got all these wild rhythms in your head but the lights go out?... What then? Who makes jungle/hip-hop brilliance, but electricity-free? Thirdly, and this'll be quick: the issue isn't what is "intelligent" about IDM, or what is "music", but, I think, what is "dance"? Is "dance" the kaleidoscopic whirligig of thoughts & daydreams I get while headphoning my way through Bela Bartok, or does "dance" always involve this thing we call the "body"? So is Igor Stravinksy "intelligent dance music"? Listen to the opening of his _Petrushka_; that's the fuckin' Autechre-ization of classical music right there; some unbelievable shit preceded the era of electricity & turntables; how do we find it, use it, and take it way, way, way further? Or who already has? Last: any reaction to Oval's disc, _systemisch_? Not quite IDM-worthy, but intelligent, musical, and even (bizarrely) danceable stuff... Anyway... Have a good today, and enjoy it thoroughly. We won't last; not even continents do... - DJ Bug
